Calling all Officials

Can I start by saying a great big thank you to all those technical and non technical who worked at this years blocks, we couldn’t do it without you! But now we face a big challenge!

As you may know, from September this year all level 2 meets (or above) will require officials to be licensed. This means two things for the County.

Firstly we need all our officials to be licensed. Secondly to licence you need to be at least a judge 1.

So all you timekeepers out there we need you to upgrade to become a judge 1. Its quite a simple thing and something some of your colleagues have already completed. If you want more details please contact me on n.harper@tesco.net for more details.

If you are an existing judge 1 or above and haven’t applied for your licence yet please click on the link for the British Swimming site - www.britishswimming.org , go to disciplines/swimming/officials/forms and there you can download the application form.

With reference to the £10 licence fee, a decision was made at the last County Executive meeting that the County will reimburse the fee. This applies to officials who have already licensed as well.

This is something that we need to act on quickly to ensure that we have sufficient numbers of suitably qualified people for next years event.

Neil Harper, Honorary Officials Secretary

Ashley Dougan (Gloucester City)

Just to let you know how Ashley's getting on. This last week he's been competing at the Sun Belt Conference, the pinnacle of the Southern States of North America University Swimming calendar.

He had a fantastic meet and took University records. He featured as their 'pin up' on the University site twice in the four day (8 session) meet.

At their last meet he was asked to stand in for an athlete in the 4 x 200 Free relay. He was so close to the University records they've made him enter not only a member of the relay team for this meet but also as an individual 200 freestyler. He broke the University record, only to have a team mate take it off him in the final.

His schooling seems to be going well too and he's decided to take on another Master in Business Management and a Minor in Biology to accompany his original plans of a Major in Marketing.

Thanks to all past and present at Gloucester City and Gloucester County for all the support they gave Ashley that made all this possible.
